If you've been near Elland Road for more than five minutes, you've heard it. "Dirty Leeds." Said by opposition fans like an insult, worn by our own like a badge of honour. It's one of the oldest nicknames in English football, and it's not going anywhere.
The name goes back to the Revie era, when Leeds were accused of playing a rougher, more physical game than most of the First Division was used to. Whether that reputation was fully deserved or just the kind of thing rival fans love to repeat, it stuck. Decades on, "Dirty Leeds" isn't really about tackles anymore. It's shorthand for a club that's never been universally loved, never played the underdog quietly, and never cared much what anyone outside Yorkshire thought of it.
Some nicknames are meant to needle you. This one, fans took back a long time ago. Wearing it isn't agreeing with the insult, it's telling everyone you've heard it a thousand times and it stopped landing a long time ago.
